Inversion Layers
Jul. 25 2011
When I existed in the Southern realms I would often catch glimpses of what was commonly referred to as "Inversion Layers", which is essentially a layer within which an atmospheric property is inverted, i.e., its change is deviated from the normal pattern. This would happen during heavy smog, and most occurrences taking place in the outskirts of the city of Los Angeles--those decrepit and decaying townships lost and forgotten, huddled under the facade of a larger idealism that never happened.
This piece is dedicated to those places, and to the empty spaces now overgrown with the weeds and vegetation only long lapses of time can provide. There is sublime beauty to be found there, ghosts gone quiet and histories lamented. 24" x 32" found aerial map mounted on re-purposed foamcore with mixed media.
