Telepathy Range II

Aug. 07 2012

Distant mountain kings sending codes to the heavens. Against an icy backdrop, they never lose their footing. Their permanence relays their expert balance. These beings speak for all.

Colours Swirl and Catherine Wheel

Jun. 25 2012

"Sometimes...I fade away...sometimes...ahhhh ahhhhhhhh..."

So sings the late great Catherine Wheel on one of my favorite '90s moody and gazey albums, Ferment.

This new piece titled "Buck in Synesthesia" was created by and for all such '90s shoegazer acts. The image is color, the colors are sound. 18" x 20" found & reclaimed buck image upcycled and re-envisioned by yrs truly. 2012 via 1991.

Big Horn Splendor III (Mt. King)

Jun. 12 2012

This past weekend I made the "rounds" to some of my favorite art materials outlets, i.e., thrift stores, for the first time in months. I used to do this pretty much every weekend two years ago, but now with my two year old daughter the task becomes a bit too challenging. So I've reduced my travels to basically a few times a year. Sheeesh. Ahhh well, I was becoming a little burned out from the constance of it anyway. Plus, taking a break helped me to creatively re-think what I can do with my "finds".

Anyhoo..I came across this insane 1970s lodge art wall piece complete with giant mountain ram image. It is nuts and I am nuts, so I went ahead and re-envisioned/upcycled it in my usual way. Here is Big Horn Splendor III, 18" x 22", varnished and burnished burl wood plaque w/ ram image, colored tape and bits of 82nd Ave. pathos. 1970 via 2012.

Last Thursday Phase IIV: TheBestArtGalleryInPortland

Jun. 02 2012

Thanks to everyone who made it to the Best Art Gallery in Portland this past Thurs (5/31). I had a great time speaking with y'all, and enjoyed the fleeting smiles and ephemeral air that always surrounds such art receptions. All the pieces are still there and still available, so if you saw something you liked, just send me a message, we can work something out, we can work it out. This piece below, "Lifter", is there just above where Phil sits. I liked Phil, he seems like a good guy. Click here to read more about the new rising force on Alberta St.

Last Thursday Alberta Streetscape Scene Insanity

May. 26 2012

This next Thursday (5/31) marks first time of the year when the streets are officially closed to through traffic in the Alberta Arts District for the much anticipated "Last Thursday" oddities & arts display. Yes indeed, it is that time again when tall bikes and clowns on stilts and assorted Mad Max rejects adorned in post-apocalyptic costumes converge in one area and freak everyone out. So, as a welcome respite, just duck into the Country Financial office located at 1468 NE Alberta St. and you will become enveloped in some new works by yrs truly. This one below, created out of an odd head space at the time, will be on display for ridicule and/or praise. Don't matter much to me. Just come in and say hello. I will not be on stilts, nor wearing Mad Max armor. Just plain old me and a lot of lines and patterns.

Prey Detected Prey Decimated

May. 20 2012

To be caught beneath this focused predator would be an unfortunate situation. It is a good thing that we are mostly viewers onto the wild world rather than wild in the world and viewing certain death from above. This new piece below is "Swoop" Mixed media assemblage on re-purposed cardboard with specialized drafting tape. 16" x 20" and thereabouts. But really, yes.

Ancient Structures of the Future

Apr. 30 2012

New piece, new piece! Hear ye, here's ye...and so forth. This is "Ancient Structures" 9" x 13" found tree image with colored tape mounted on reused foamcore. Not very hardcore, but who hardcore would check out this softcore in the first place? 2012 and the sun is slowly becoming more apparent.
