Graveyard Study No. 1
Jul. 21 2011
A lost artist and a lost piece recovered and re-envisioned. A graveyard scene of unknown origin. Perhaps a supernatural event happened here, judging from the mylar gravestones illuminating ghosts gone quiet, methinks this is a fair asessment. This place resonates. 18" x 24" mounted on re-used foamcore with mixed media.
Where the Wild Things Were
Jun. 27 2011

CUTTERS/CORK: Collage Mania!
Feb. 03 2011
Once again I am thrilled to have some of my work included in another Cutters exhibit, this time in Cork County, Ireland! Two years ago I had a few pieces in the first Cutters exhibit in Brooklyn, NY at Cinders Gallery. Cutters is an annual roving exhibition of collage work from artists all around the globe. James Gallagher, the curator of Cutters, says the works in the exhibition “fall into a variety of categories, numerous styles and countless visions. All of them made from the act of physically or digitally cutting and pasting...resulting in a range of work that encompasses everything from social and political commentaries to personal confessions, not to mention surrealist fantasies composed from real life and from the imaginary”.
If you happen to find yerself in Cork County, pop on over to the West Corks Art Centre and get an eyeful of about 300 collage works from about 50 artists, including yers truly. Now if I can only try and dig up some cash for a quick plane trip over, hmmm….
Passe Impasse
Jan. 23 2011
From that which is discarded a new life takes form (another man's garbage is another man's treasure). Basically, and on a fundamental level, this has been my MO for the past 4 years. Why would it stop now? It does not, and here is a new piece to prove it: "Fall Passages", found image on re-used cardboard with various mixed media, 18" x 24", 2011 ad infintum.
Kit Fox for 2011
Jan. 16 2011
New piece for the newest of years: The Kit Fox, 8" x 10", found image mounted on board re-envisioned with colored tape. Forever breathes this lonely world.
SCRAP Re:Vision Gallery Show in January
Dec. 26 2010
When I first moved to Portland in 2007 my wife informed me about this place called SCRAP. She told me it was a creative re-use store which was very similar to a place I had frequented on a regular basis in Oakland, CA called the East Bay Depot for Creative Re-use. While living in the East Bay I would make frequent trips to the Depot for a constant stream of re-used materials. I loved going there and searching through the recently donated acquisitions. I usually ended up with a ton of material to work with on various projects.
Having a place similar to the Depot in Portland seemed fantastic to me. I soon was at SCRAP (School Community Reuse Action Project) nearly every week searching through the voluminous donations of paper, foamcore boards, tape, frames, wood panels, old images, and just about everything else that goes into the artwork that I make now. SCRAP was and is a goldmine for me. So, I am truly thrilled to be having my first show there in January called "New Formations over Old Horizons". If you are in town and interested in attending, please swing by the SCRAP Re:Vision gallery on January 13th from 5-7PM. I will be there, possibly and more than likely digging through donations to see what inspires me next. Kids are welcome and refreshments will be served. I hope to see you there!
The Architecture of Natuur
Dec. 15 2010
From the recesses of a dark, cavernous void comes forth the structure and mapping which will create the colors outside: the world as we know it. Here is a rare glimpse into this seemingly unknown phenomena: "The Architecture of Natuur", found cavern image with assorted mixed media, mounted on extra durable foamcore. This piece soon to be exhibited in the Cutters collage show in Cork County, Ireland in January 2011. Additional info shall be made available when the colours hit the land.
